Taking a Look at DWDM Transceivers

October 13,2022

The rapid growth of network traffic has led to the evolution and upgrading of the data center, thus bringing great opportunities for the optical transceiver industry.

What Is DWDM Transceiver?
DWDM transceiver adopts DWDM technology to multiplex different wavelengths or several optical signal on the same fiber to save valuable fiber resources. It increases the capacity of embedded fiber by assigning incoming optical signals to specific wavelengths with a designated wavelength band and then multiplexing the resulting signals out onto one fiber. These transceivers are designed for high-capacity and long-distance transmission, with a data rate of up to 10Gbps and working distance up to 120km.

Type of DWDM Transceivers
DWDM SFP, 10G DWDM SFP+, 25G DWDM SFP28

DWDM SFP Transceiver Modules
DWDM SFP optical transceiver module adopts DWDM technology in SFP form factor. DWDM SFP transceiver is a hot-swappable optical module used to connect cables to switches primarily in high-capacity long-haul networks. DWDM SFP series transceiver modules include 44 optional channels, supporting rates from 100Mbps to 2.67Gbps. DWDM SFP can be widely utilized in Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, 1G/2G Fibre Channel and Synchronous Optical Networks .The working wavelength ranges from 1528.77nm to 1563.86nm. The wavelength interval is 0.8nm, and the transmission distance through single-mode fiber can reach up to 80km to 120km.

10G DWDM SFP+ Transceiver Modules
10G DWDM SFP+ is in hot-pluggable SFP+ package, and supporting the whole C-Band spectrum. The operating temperature range is available in commercial 0°C-70°C and industrial -40°C-85°C, compliant with SFP28 MSA and 10G Ethernet standards. The longest transmission distance can be up to 80km via single-mode fiber.

25G DWDM SFP28 Transceiver Modules
25G DWDM SFP28 optical modules are mainly used to meet the needs of 25G Ethernet and 5G fronthaul. The maximum rate is up to 25.78Gbps and the working wavelength ranges from 1528.77nm to 1563.86nm. The wavelength interval is 0.8nm.

Advantages
DWDM transceivers are pluggable and tunable modules, supporting 40 channels as options, so as to improve the use efficiency of optical modules greatly. According to different needs, DWDM optical transceivers have different channel spacings, which can support long-distance transmission up to 100km, and can be used as an effective solution for line bandwidth expansion.
